Last day in Stralsund 🇩🇪The participants are discussing lessons learned 👍🏼 Some of the conclusions:
- Material recycling is very difficult with retrieved fishing gear.
- It is most difficult with gillnets.
- Pre-processing in harbours are necessary.
- The best option for the recycling of gillnets is thermal processing through hydrolysis.
- The best option for uniform materials is recycling with polymer matrix of prestine material.
- Processing (shredding, washing, density separation) is cost-, time-, energyexpensive.

Last week, MARELITT Baltic partners from the Marine Center in Simrishamn municipality, visited a small local company called Fiskareföreningen Norden. Sixten Söderberg, founder and owner of the company, informed about an effort to establish a municipal sorting station that can handle several types of plastic waste – including retrieved derelict fishing gear👍🏼 #ghostnets #balticsea #marelittbaltic
WWF Poland arranged a national experts workshop about electromagnetic net marking. This solution would allow to easily identify lost nets and to find its owner 🔍👍🏼 #marelittbaltic #ghostnets #balticsea
